What is a dry-fit kitchen refurbishment?

There are different types of kitchen refurbishments and it is important to understand the complexities and considerations before making a decision on which type of kitchen refurbishment would be best for you. Previously we looked at the phases involved in a full kitchen refurbishment, today we will look at a dry-fit refurbishment.

What is a dry-fit kitchen refurbishment?

A dry-fit kitchen refurbishment would be the fitting of all kitchen units and appliances excluding any other additional works. It is important to understand this as when requesting a quote from the fitter they will price on the exact works required and will be responsible only for the works they have agreed to.

What does a dry-fit include…

Rip-out of existing kitchen and disposal (if agreed)

Fitting of kitchen base units

Fitting of kitchen wall units

Fitting of kitchen appliances

What does a dry-fit not include…

Plastering & other preparation works

Plumbing & electrical works

Tiling (walls & floor)

It is important to ensure that if you are hiring a fitter to install a dry-fit only you are taking responsibility to ensure that all preparation work is completed in a timely manner and correctly, ready for your fitter. Any issues that arise with the preparation works will be the responsibility of the homeowner and may cause delays to the kitchen fit. Dry-fits are often carried out if you are purchasing a new home and are installing a new kitchen and if your kitchen does not require any preparation work (although this is often unlikely). Some homeowners may also desire a cost effective refresh and choose to upgrade the existing unit doors only.
